About Me

I grew up the daughter of entrepreneurs, and was drawn to science at an early age.

I graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in biology and a minor in biochemistry. My partner and I moved to Alaska where I worked on projects mapping Arctic vegetation and studying fire ecology in the Boreal forest.

While working at the University of Alaska, I discovered metalsmithing where I captured essence of nature in precious metals and stones. We moved to a tiny island in the middle of the Salish Sea, and I set up a jewelry studio of my own. We built our home and a grew our family on a homestead farm amongst the twisted trunks of a century-old apple orchard.

When my daughter was 3, I began telling stories to pass the time on long car drives and during exhausting nights of her insomnia. A chance meeting with a children’s author springboarded me on a new career trajectory. I joined the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, applied for a mentorship, and began building my community and honing my craft.
